Roth Käse Cheese Is Part of a Healthy Lifestyle

MONROE, Wisconsin- It is no wonder that March is National Nutrition Month…with swimsuit season is right around the corner, many of us start planning how to shed our winter padding.  Believe it or not, cheese can help you reach your health and fitness goals no matter what the season.  Roth Käse’s specialty cheeses give you a whole lot of flavor enjoyment with even the most modest of mouthful.

Cheese is a nutritional powerhouse.  An excellent source of protein and calcium, cheese also contains essential nutrients, such as zinc, phosphorus, vitamin A, and vitamin B12.  And natural cheese is trans fat free!  Consuming cheese may prevent osteoporosis and reduce the risk of dental caries.  As a source of CLA (conjugated linoleic acid), cheese may impact weight loss while helping to reduce the risk of chronic diseases.  In fact, several studies have linked the consumption of dairy foods, including cheese, with lowering the risk of certain cancers.

Sensible nutrition transcends fad diets.  The key to including cheese in a healthy lifestyle is to select flavorful cheeses for cooking and snacking and to savor cheese sensibly (i.e. in moderation).  A full-flavored cheese allows you to consume less (i.e. lower fat and calories) while still achieving the satisfying flavor that only cheese can lend to a meal.  Richly flavored cheeses such as Grand Cru Gruyère and Rofumo (a unique smoked Fontina) are an excellent choice for healthy cooking (shredded atop salads, soups and sandwiches, for example); even small portions pack a flavor punch.  When a recipe calls for Mozzarella, cut the quantity in half and substitute a flavorful melting cheese such as MezzaLuna Fontina or Fontiago.  In between meals, nibble on GranQueso or Queso Duro Tropical, a Dutch-style Edam cheese, with a piece of fruit and whole grain bread or crackers for a fiber-rich snack that keeps you feeling full.  Lactose intolerant?  Not to worry, most aged cheeses (Gruyère, Vintage Van Gogh, Homestead, etc…) contain little or no lactose.  If you do splurge on your favorite indulgence, take a brisk walk afterwards for 20 – 30 minutes to stimulate your metabolism and burn calories.

Roth Käse applies the same traditional techniques it uses in crafting its specialty cheeses to a line of full-flavor reduced-fat cheeses for those whose dietary needs demand the extra degree of fat reduction.  These include Ostenbørg reduced-fat Havarti and Dill Havarti, which contain 1/3 less fat than regular Havarti, and Landhaus Lace Käse, the finest reduced-fat, low-sodium Swiss type cheese available.  With so many options, you’ll be looking and feeling healthy in no time.

All of Roth Käse’s cheeses are hand-crafted by master cheesemakers according to traditional techniques.  Roth Käse is a leading manufacturer and marketer of handcrafted, award-winning specialty cheeses in Monroe, WI, making only the highest quality, best tasting cheese.
