A True Masterpiece, Vintage Van Gogh

Vintage Van Gogh is artfully crafted in limited quantities from fresh, full cream milk.  Aged for a minimum of six months, this outstanding cheese has a rich, golden body, and a nuanced flavor with pronounced caramel. Vintage Van Gogh is an ideal centerpiece for a cheese platter.  Dried cherries and cranberries pair well, as do cashews, almonds, and pecans.  Merlot is a classic accompaniment.  Cooking applications are plentiful, as Vintage Van Gogh melts beautifully. Awards include: 1st Place 2004 Wisconsin State Fair, 2nd Place 2002 American Cheese Society Competition.  Other Dutch-style favorites in the Van Gogh range of cheeses include:

Van Gogh Gouda - Named for the city where it originated, Gouda is the quintessential Dutch cheese.  The traditional red-wax coating was originally used to demarcate Gouda for export to the New World; we’ve maintained that tradition. Van Gogh Gouda has a mellow flavor and a straw-yellow body. Its mild sweetness makes it the perfect pair for peaches, apricots, plums, Honeydew melons, and light to medium bodied white wines (try a Riesling or Gewürztraminer).

Van Gogh Edam: With less fat than Gouda, Edam is the other cheese that popularized Dutch cheesemaking skills.  Edam was a staple of the Dutch traders in the 16th and 17th centuries.  Van Gogh Edam balls are coated in red wax, which, aside from adding to its distinctive appearance, prevents moisture loss and reduces spoilage. Also made in the loaf form for slicing, Van Gogh Edam and Gouda are both great cooking and snacking cheeses – kids love the mild, satisfying, buttery flavor, and the red wax makes for attractive displays.

Van Gogh Queso Duro Tropical: Original versions of Queso Duro Tropical were created during colonial times to withstand the voyage to the new world.   A favorite in the islands, Queso Duro Tropical is lower in moisture and has a slightly higher salt content than traditional Edam (to resist spoilage).  It pairs wonderfully with tropical fruits and sangria, and is the staple ingredient in Keshy Yena, a Caribbean specialty.

Van Gogh Smoked Natural Gouda: A Roth Käse favorite, Van Gogh Smoked Natural Gouda is aged for a minimum of six months and delicately smoked to add subtle flavor…it is not a processed cheese. Van Gogh Smoked Gouda will add depth of flavor to sandwiches, panini, burgers, pizzas, salads, casseroles, chicken, turkey, pork, and veal dishes.  Chefs (recreational to professional) will love it!  As an appetizer or snack, serve Van Gogh Smoked Gouda with whole wheat crackers, multi-grain bread, or a hearty beer.

Van Gogh Smoked Gouda:  One of the most popular snacking cheeses, Van Gogh Smoked Gouda is made from natural Gouda, unlike most of the imports, which are made from Swiss or Maasdam.  The cheese is naturally smoked, giving it an eye-catching brownish rind and pleasant smoky flavor.  The traditional sausage-link shape (with trimmed ends) can be sliced thick or thin.  For a fun and attractive presentation, cut slices of Van Gogh Smoked Gouda into miniature wedges.  Serve the mini-wedges with broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots for a delicious crudité, or add to the children’s lunchbox.   Van Gogh Smoked Gouda melts well, and is a wonderful addition to turkey sandwiches.
